Today, I'm joining the chorus of voices calling on Lord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes and the Minister for Local Government, Ron Hoenig to urgently launch an independent investigation into the latest development in the letter to the editor scandal engulfing the CEO Jeremy Bath.

The calls follow further details revealed by the Newcastle Herald over the weekend that a confidential email that was leaked to the paper under the name Jason Sivo and has been linked to the Neylon letter-writing scandal. The confidential email was sent exclusively to NSW local government general managers, including Mr Bath.

Earlier this month, the Minister for Local Government placed Liverpool Council into administration following several scandals. The same standard, however, has not been applied to Newcastle Council.

This embarrassing saga has brought the City and the Council into severe disrepute.

It’s time for change. It’s time to stop the rot and end the scandals engulfing Newcastle Council.

And if Lord Mayor Nelmes won’t launch an investigation - I will.

If elected Lord Mayor I will move to immediately initiate a thorough forensic investigation into this scandal.

It’s time to restore trust and integrity to Newcastle council.
